President's Message
August 2006
Vote early and vote often!
Believe it or not, the
midterm elections are les than two months away. The perception
being touted by the media is that the GOP is in trouble. They cite
various polls which are like sound bites to the average voter--easy to
remember and an excuse for not thinking for themselves--and tend to
follow along without examining the underlying facts or context.
The discriminating voter
(which of course includes all Lincoln Club members) knows that most poll
questions are designed to elicit the preferred answer, sample a
ridiculously small number of people and tend to report only those parts
which arguably support their positions.
This is the long way of
stating the importance of the midterms. While Ventura County is pretty
well set as far as the national elections go, our local and state
elections are still very important. These are the offices which
have a direct impact on us and our families. We need to have the
people in power who embrace the Republican ideals of smaller government,
lower taxes, personal responsibilities and individual freedoms.
Keep those ideals in mind and apply them when examining all races; local
boards city councils, county offices and state positions as well as
propositions. Even if your favorite candidate is not on the
ballot, vote for those who are closest to these ideals.
You can
make a difference, but
only if you vote.
Thanks again,
Karen Kurta
President
Ventura County Lincoln Club
